About Us:
At Recurve, we are dedicated to solving the most complex clean energy grid challenges to meet our climate goals and ensure keeping the lights on! Our open-source SaaS platform and sophisticated M&V analytics and forecasting tools help energy professionals leverage their smart meter data to quickly and accurately measure energy usage, and the impact of demand flexibility resources on the grid. Our FLEXmarket product is proving that demand management can scale and deliver cost-effective outcomes for grid management and customer savings.
We are an organization that places a high value on interoperability, transparency, communication, and collaboration, with no black boxes. We are a 100% distributed, performance driven organization that welcomes all applicants who are self-motivated, thrive in a remote-working environment, and want to help grow a fast paced startup.
About The Role:
Recurve is seeking a Senior Analyst to join its Analytics and Prototyping team. This new and growing team within Recurve’s Applied Data Science department is responsible for mining customer energy consumption data to surface new insights about energy consumption patterns and the impacts of demand-side interventions and programs including energy efficiency, demand response, and electrification. The team develops and implements new analytical capabilities that answer strategically important customer questions and serve as prototypes for future Recurve product offerings.
The Analyst in this role will take the lead in developing and conducting complex analytical research projects that leverage Recurve’s analytics tools to deliver novel insights to Recurve’s customers and partners. An example project might involve forecasting the performance of different demand-side interventions to deliver peak-load reductions at the utility scale and the resulting avoided grid costs and emissions.
This is a highly collaborative, customer facing role, in which you will be working with both external and internal stakeholders in order to create unique data analytics and models. You will be reporting directly to our Director of Forecasting and Measurement and will also work closely with our Data Scientists, Engineers and Customer Solutions managers. This role may also be filled at the Staff or Principal Analyst level for an applicant with appropriate background and capabilities.

What You Will Do:

  • Own and create analytical methods to answer questions that go beyond Recurve’s main product offerings to answer novel and complex questions for our end users and customers.
  • Manipulate and configure multiple complex data sources from our energy and utility clients to conduct cross-cutting analyses that deliver unique insights.
  • Work closely with Recurve’s energy and utility clients to understand their business goals, and partner with our Data Science team in translating these into technical requirements and data models that best serve their unique needs.
  • Leverage your technical expertise to create pristine analytical results, data visualizations and models from complex, nebulous, data sources.
  • Collaborate extensively with internal and external stakeholders and experts to build models and solutions at scale, start-to-finish.
  • Identify areas of optimization within energy and data analytics that can improve existing processes, and own execution on these initiatives using proven statistical methods.
  • Collaborate with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product specialists to develop prototypes of new scalable methods or analytical product offerings that can better support Recurve’s customers and partners.
  • Lead teams of Analysts on complex projects, help mentor early-career Analysts and Data Scientists and participate in future hiring processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience (at least 8 for Staff/Principal level), working in analytics, specifically in energy or utilities and preferably customer/client facing.
  • Extensive subject-matter knowledge in power systems, demand-side management, or both (wide-ranging domain expertise required for Staff or Principal level)
  • Experience working with large datasets, gigabytes and above.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with modern programming languages for data analytics and modeling; Python preferred.
  • Strong SQL capabilities.
  • Experience designing and implementing custom data visualizations to provide insights from complex data.
  • Comfortable interacting with company leadership, board members, and other external partners.
  • Comfortable leading teams of analysts in complex projects and mentoring / developing early-career analytical staff.
  • An affinity for working with clients in order to provide them with insights that address their most critical questions.
  • Previously published work, articles, and/or presentations demonstrating your craft and contributions

  • Prior experience working with advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) data.
  • Optimization modeling experience.
  • Prior experience in modeling building energy consumption (e.g., OpenStudio) or power system planning and operations (e.g., capacity expansion or production cost modeling).
  • Prior experience with modern machine-learning tools and methodologies
