POSITION TITLE: Senior VMware Infrastructure Engineer

DEPARTMENT: SOC (System Operations Center)

REPORTS TO: Systems Architect

FLSA STATUS: Full Time, Exempt, Full Benefits

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior VMware Infrastructure Engineer with a proven track record of managing and optimizing virtualized environments. As a key member of our System Operations team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining a robust virtual infrastructure, backup, and disaster recovery to support our organization's growing needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, deployment, and optimization of VMware vSphere environments.
  • Provide expertise in configuring and managing advanced features of VMware, including HA, DRS.
  • Integrate virtualized environments with Linux/UNIX systems, ensuring seamless operation and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to the interaction between virtualized and Linux/UNIX environments.
  • Experienced using Linx/UNIX as required to support VMware infrastructure, eg, DNS, DHCP, Radius, AD/LDAP.
  • Experience working in complex L2/L3 environments with VXLAN or other L2 stretch implementations with dynamic routing to maintain high availability systems and multi-site failover.
  • Analyze and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Implement best practices for resource utilization and capacity planning.
  • Implement and enforce security measures in virtualized and Linux/UNIX environments.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and implement automation scripts (PowerShell, Perl, Python, Bash) as needed.
  • Work on orchestration tools for automated provisioning and deployment.
  • Design and implement robust backup and recovery strategies for virtualized and Linux/UNIX systems including multi-site replication and failover.
  • Conduct regular testing and validation of backup procedures.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide training on VMware and Linux/UNIX technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate virtualized and Linux/UNIX systems into the overall IT infrastructure.
  • Lead infrastructure projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in VMware vSphere administration.
  • Strong background in Linux/UNIX system administration and extensive expertise in VMware technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, enterprise storage, and cloud technologies.
  • Competent programming/scripting skills in Perl, Python, Bash, etc.
  • Certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) and Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) are desirable.
  • Team management and/or leadership skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ansible software.
  • Dynamic Routing with BGP & OSPF.
  • Knowledge of scripting and automation tools for configuration management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
