Position Summary:

The role of the OSP Construction Manager is to mentor, develop and oversee the construction and fiber splicing team, and contract labor for Business and Residential fiber construction, while promoting Sonic's core values. They are responsible for coordinating, planning, and executing the fiber construction process, ensuring that all projects meet their quality, time, and budget expectations. This role involves collaboration with vendors, contractors, engineers, and internal teams to ensure compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

The OSP Construction Manager is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position. Typical schedule is Monday through Friday 6AM-3PM.

Travel:

Travel is expected for this position. A valid California Driver’s License and Clean DMV is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The OSP Construction Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the construction and fiber splicing teams, in accordance with Sonic’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and evaluate construction and fiber splicing personnel; coordinate construction efforts through in-house and contract labor for new construction and rebuild projects both aerial and underground.
  • Represent the interests of Sonic in a professional manner with governmental, municipal, and related industry organizations.
  • Coordinate and work with utility companies for all construction related work in the right of way, including but not limited to pole transfers, system maintenance, pole inspection, relocation of plant and plant extensions.
  • Coordinate with engineers and developers in designing the plant; work closely with staff responsible for designing, drawing and sketching installation and location of equipment such as nodes, amplifiers, power supplies and cables; complete material orders needed for planned construction.
  • Monitor contractor performance; ensure adherence to terms and conditions of agreements and ensure all personnel and contractors are adhering to local and state construction requirements and codes.
  • Perform site inspections for quality control and safety.
  • Coordinate permitting and make-ready process.
  • Ensure staff is responding to residential and business sales teams to meet tight deadlines.
  • Communicate with Vice President of Field Operations regarding concerns about construction progress.
  • Ensure that all financials are tracked, recorded, and reported accurately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.

Job Requirements:

  • 5 years Cable Television or Telecommunications technical experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in working and/or supervising a cable TV/telecommunications construction department.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale fiber network construction projects.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes and G.O.95 and 128.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of local and national safety and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA).
  • Proficiency in fiber testing, troubleshooting, and splicing techniques is a plus.

Compensation:

$100k-$140k annually plus KPI bonus

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Daily driving is expected. The Construction crew is exposed to varying climates and elements, determined by Mother Nature. Extreme heat, rain, dust and wind are to be expected.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit and stand; talk or hear; reach with hands and arms; key/type. The employee is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to drive a vehicle.
